I don't recommend the 980 at all, you get 10% more performance than the 970 for a lot more money. You would be better off saving a little more and getting much much more from a 980 ti, as they destroy the 980 in performance.

If you want the bleeding edge of performance, go for the gigabyte 980ti windforce, it performs the best in benchmarks. If you want silence, look at some of the watercoolers from evga and corsair/msi, as they do not need to ramp up the fans as much for the same cooling.

Well the fastest 980 with a factory overclock is a evga classified for $600, or you can pick up an evga 980ti FTW for $629. I would spend the extra $30 and get a 980ti.
