Im in search for a laptop for college now and id like to be able to game as best as i can. Im looking at the HP dv9000t, HP dv 9500t, and the lenovo T61 right now for laptops. The graphics cards offered for some of these are:

dv9000t
256MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7600
512MB NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7600

dv9500t
383MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
511MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS

lenovo t61
Intel GMA X3100 GM965 w/ WWAN

of these, which graphics card would give me the best performance. I will be getting an intel core 2 duo processor with between 2 and 2.2 Ghz depending on which laptop i get and probably 2 gb of ram

As per notebookcheck.com the 8600MGS would be the best bet.

"NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS is the DirectX 10 capable successor of the GeForce Go 7600 / 7700 for laptops. The performance is slightly above the 7600 / 7700 and therefore it can represent current games fluently"

The 8400M GS
"NVidia GeForce 8400M GS is the DirectX 10 capable successor of the GeForce Go 7400 for laptops and technologically a slower 8400M GT video card. The performance is slightly above the 7400 and therefore it can represent current games fluently with reduced details / resolutions. For people who play occasionally, it may be sufficient."

Have fun with your new notebook

Have you researched the others? The Intel I the lowest on the list.

Agreed.

The GF7600GT would be better than the GF8600M GS, but the plain GF7600 is weaker. The card to look for though is the GF8600M GT it's just shy of the GF7900GS, and the solid choice for the midrange until the HD2600XT and GF8700M GT come out.

On the subject, anyone know a site other then alienware or dell taht can include a 7950gtx in a laptop and keep it below a grand? Dell offer it but then you have to picks tons of other unnecessary upgrades.

Sorry to nit-pick, but you mean the XPS right? Yes Dell has SLI 8700m GT's on the M1730. The only thing with the 8700's is that the 7950GTX is still more powerful. If you are buying a laptop for pure power, the GTX is the way to go. If you want DX10 support and want it now, get the 8700. The other thing to keep in mind is that both the 8700 and the 7950 use the latest MXM so both *should* be upgradeable to the 8800m if it ever comes out.
