I need a good laptop primarily for gaming but also will last a while and be fast in other areas besides gaming. I'm torn between a customized MSI GT72 Dominator Pro and Sager NP9773-S
Specs: MSI
Intel i7-4710HQ (2.5GHz - 3.5GHz, 6MB Intel® Smart Cache)
Nvidia GTX 980M (8GB)
24 GB RAM
2x 128GB Solid State Drive [M.2] mSATA (not in RAID)
1TB 7200RPM (SATA III - 6GB/s)

and Sager...
Intel i7-4790K Unlocked [Z97 Chipset] (4.0GHz - 4.4GHz, 8MB Intel® Smart Cache)
Nvidia GTX 980M (8GB)
24GB RAM
250GB Samsung 850 EVO M.2 mSATA SSD
1TB 7200RPM [SATA II - 3GB/s] (can add second)
Thanks for reading any help is much appreciated!

Solution
the sager for gaming (more space for games, that unlock core will run you bat dry in like a minute..)

tha msi for laptoping...(less power usage)

when it comes down to it they are both over kill and you prolly wont notice a difference except when you run out of space / battery depending on which you choose, but i thing the MSI comes with the option to get a SSD and a HDD as well in which case that would be the best option.

I could care less about battery life, but will the Sager keep up its performance for 3-4 years before it slows down drastically (its worth mentioning the sager is 75hz refresh while the msi is 60hz, and the sager has and IPS screen with the Nvidia variable refresh thing)

your eys see 30 refresh rate :) 60 is double and most games cap vsync at 60 anyway.

the i7 both of them will only use like 2-7 percent most of the time anyway in normal environment they both have 8 cores, the sager is over clocked which will also caus massive heat problem if not always on a desk or something hard.

Ah thanks. It's just the variable refresh thing on the sager that makes it especially appealing to me. I guess the Sager is basically having nicer technology that's useless because its limited by human senses. I probably should go with the MSI.

getting rid of 4.4 gh overclock on a deck top is hard enogh let alone doing it on a laptop, i think it will do it but will also trhottle half the time which would defeat the purpose where the 4710hq is already otimized for such cercustances and will always give you full thorttle head on.. extra info....

it's a bit late, but if you under clock the I7 4790k inside the Sager by just a bit you drastically reduce the thermal signature of the processor. Overall heating vs preformance is better. The MSI Dominator will run around 70 to 80 Celsius both GPU and CPU while the Sagers 980m runs at a steady 60 Celsius and the I7 4790k at a full load tempature of 80 to 90 Celsius (no throttling until about 105 C but the laptop never gets there, when it gets to 90 C the temp just flat lines there and never goes above). Under clock the Processor a bit and you can see full load tempatures of 70 to 80 Celsius on that processor and still have superior performance.

Another bonus for the 4790k is it is replaceable by the user if another compatible chip comes out and Sager is more then okay with you prying it out and replacing it by hand.

I have been browsing a lot of material in search for the proper laptop and performance vs thermal signature is the top of the list. In the end, both will get the job done.

Again, I know it's a bit late but I hope my mumbo jumbo holds some insight.
