Which laptop is betterfor gaming?

i would wait a bit till mantle benchmarks/support for m graphics show up. it might tilt the balance towards the first one - it is better on everything except the graphics - newer cpu, higher resolution, dell.

neither will be very good at gaming and will probably work just in low/medium settings

Laviniu, your tabs got messed up - the dell IS the second one.

But yeah, no, there isn't any cheap gaming laptop out there, period. A gaming laptop has to have very expensive parts PLUS a cooling system that can keep up with two massive heat producers in a tiny laptop chassis.

May I ask why you need a laptop so badly? You might well be better off with the solution that's worked for so many of us; that is to say, a netbook or other cheap laptop for school / work, and then a gaming desktop back at home.

the acer is junk. too much monitor no where near enough gpu power to drive it. acer laptops are usually junk so this is no surprise. the dell is even bigger junk. just as big a monitor as the acer, and even worse graphics.

Both would fail hard as gaming machines~ save your cash, neither will game respectably in any way whatsoever.

of the two the acer would manage a little better. But it would still fail. here is how to tell if a laptop will work for gaming. Know that the best laptop gpu is either the 780ti m or the 8970m... both are about the power of a desktop r9-270 (actually a little less). Those are 500-700 dollar laptop gpus, and they barely match a $180 desktop gpu.

what does this tell you? Unless you're spending 1500-2500 on your laptop, don't bother with a monitor bigger then 1388x768 in resolution. Your laptop's gpu just won't have the power to game at resolutions higher then that. Since you're looking at laptops in the 600 range, stick to 1388x768 monitors. also avoid intel HD graphics like you would the plague. Intel HD graphics simply isn't up to gaming. Massive driver problems make it worthless no matter how nice it might bench.

So, on the AMD side stick to a10 apus, on the intel side make sure it has a discrete gpu at least as strong as a 740m...

as a sidenote i disagree with the person claiming you can't game on a $600 laptop. I've seen plenty of a10s and i5 laptops (with 650m gpus) in that pricerange which will game perfectly well on a 1388x768 monitor. They'll all hit 60fps in pretty much any game... just know you're gaming at some sad resolutions. I know there are some people who don't consider gaming under 1080p gaming... but for people on a budget sometimes that's all you can do.

hmm, right you are, and that's what i meant, the dell is better on everything except the graphics. and that might change too once mantle support hits the mobile graphics.

Thanks again for all the replies.

To answer Dark the reason im looking for a laptop is because i will be having to travel to work in Rome alot this year and so am looking for a decent laptop for work and also gaming on my down times.

I said in my first post that was looking to be gaming on bf4 but will the laptops i first posted be good enough to play on games such as league of legends or will i still have difficulty even with this game?

You will still have difficulty with games such as LoL, yeah. If you turn the resolution and settings down low, they might be playable, but at that point, the settings wouldn't really be playable.

I would strongly consider looking at building or buying a small form factor desktop - there are a lot of options to make a computer that can slide into a carry-on bag or backpack pretty easily, and a lot of monitors that fit into even medium-sized baggage perfectly.

if you want to explore this option, my gaming desktop goes back and forth with me two and from Seattle several times a year, so it's more than feasible.

nope. 1600x900 resolution is WAY too much for either gpus.

as i was saying before, stick to laptops with 1388x768 resolution monitors. Then make sure it's either an a10 or an intel with an nvidia 650m/740m gpu. Those will game pretty much anything.

i speak from personal experience, intel i3 with 740m is barely playable on low/med. on 1366x768

well the mobile i3 is typically a single core part isn't it?

I stand corrected... an i5 or i7 with a 740m...

I just dug through the first link... here is one that should game ok... If it came down to it, I would rather an A10, but i don't see one on that site.

the second link goes nowhere.
