Coupla questions. Do LCD's have a shorter lifespan that CRT's, and if so what life do u think I could expect to get out of one of the above.

Is it a case of the faster the refresh rate the shorter the monitor will last?

My options:

1). Samsung 172X 17" 12ms responce - $789
2). BenQ FP767-12 17" 12 ms responce - $649
3). LG L17030S 17" 12ms responce - $649

*All prices are Australian dollars.

I'm all ears cause I was gonna get one soon.

Thanks in advance

No, not necessairly. Actually, it's the brightness you should be concerned about. That is tweakable, obviously. LCD's typically have a longer lifespan, usually about 50,000 hours. Whereas a CRT's lifespan is 10,000-20,000. When I say lifespan, I mean its brightness. When the monitor reaches the end of its lifespan, we say that it has reached its half-brightness point. With LCDs, the backlight, which is made of tiny fluorescent tubes, is the only component prone to aging. Some Next generation LCDs will incorporate LEDs. For CRTs, the cathode component of the electric gun has an oxide layer form above it, lowering current. Also, the phosphor ages.
