Hi, I'm getting a new PC soon, and with it, I need a good new PC monitor that can display the 5970s power.

I'm looking for exceptionally fast response time, good colours/contrast, and a display res of 1980x1020. The style is pretty important for me too 😛 Samsung looks nice. 22-25" is where I'd like to keep the size at, too.

The reason I'm asking is because all my friends are just recommending their monitors and what they're used to, so I'm not getting any real answers.

I've had my eye on this http://www.digitalversus.com/article-358-4495-36.html for a bit, but then I found this was a bit bigger and had a bigger resolution http://www.digitalversus.com/article-357-7352-38.html

Thanks, any input is appreciated.

Or you could get three monitors and set them up in eyefinity. A quick google search of 'displayport monitor list' will come up with a list of monitors you could use. Just make sure at least one of the monitors you pick has a displayport connection. It's also recommended to purchase three of a kind for eyefinity.

The 5970 has a mini displayport, but comes with a mini to normal adapter cable.

I am prolly gunna go through the eyefinity route, thanks for your reply.

I'll continue looking for some good 1920x1080 screens.

Are there any 120 Mhz monitors comming out soon or any ones out now other then the acer, samsung and viewsonic ones?

The 5970 can push a 2560x1600 monitor. Exactly what I have and it looks great.

120hz does seem compelling but you would have a hard time noticing the difference between 60hz and 120hz. But you definitely would notice a 30" monitor!!

I wouldn't invest too much into eyefinity. Buying 3 monitors is expensive. Might as well get a 30" and not to mention not many games support eyefinity resolution. Actually I don't think any game supports it without third party software forcing it.

I have a 32 HDTV right next to me and I deffinatly wouldn't want a monitor that big on my table XD

I am considering it thought because Acer is having huge problems stocking that screen.

30" is not too big. I can definitely vouch for any 30" monitor.

Unlike LCD TVs the 2560x1600 resolution doesn't enlarge things like a TV would at 1080P. Everything on a 30" monitor would retain the same size as on a 24" monitor. You wouldn't have to worry about desktop applications.

People say 30" gets too big in video games and you have to constantly turn your head to see putting you at a disadvantage. I am assuming you play games with that 5970 :)

Doesn't seem to put me at a disadvantage at all ^.^

A 24" monitor is good still. I would choose the acer between the two of them. Just remember if you plan on eyefinity. There is always 30" monitors.

Rofl_My_Waffle, I plan to buy the Dell U2711 2560x1440 instead of the 2709W 1920x1200 mainly because of price compared to the 30 inchers and since it is 1440p, I don't have to worry about the aspect ratio; also I assume it is better since it is IPS with lower input lag and is 2010 technology. I just hope gaming with 16:9 is okay as I play lot's of FPS games.

Anyway, do you think a 5870 or 5890 (if it does come out) will be good enough for at least 2 years gaming on high settings without AA or a mix of medium and high? I know the 1440p monitor will have 10% less pixels compared to the 1600p screen so that is to my advantage.

Or do I really need a 5970 for future proofing? I don't upgrade GPU's often.

No one seems to want to reply to my thread so I thought I might reply here, sorry for highjacking.

I think a single 5870 can drive that monitor just fine for the next two year.

Considering AA is almost useless on extremely large monitors since there is much much more pixels for corners to be smoothed over compared to even 1080P.

You don't need a 5970 as long you can live with settings on medium for games like crysis.

Yeah, I understand I won't be able to game Crysis-like games at max. Thanks for your reply, I just wanted to know others opinions; people even go Eyefinity on the 5870 so I think I should be all right.
