Which Linux should I install in my Lenovo Ideapad s10e?

Someone gave me a Lenovo ideapad s10e a few years back because it wasn't working and they didn't know how to fix it (Windows problem). I had it put away in my bookshelf for the past few years. Anyways, long story short. I want to remove windows xp from it and install a suitable version of linux on it. This computer has 1GB of RAM and I am not sure how big the hard drive is. I noticed most of the linux downloads come in .iso file. Would I be able to download one of these .iso files and put it on a flash drive (since there is no cd-rom on the lenovo) and boot from the flash drive? Which distribution do you recommend for something this old and lack of modern specs?

Well, yes it is possible, if the computer behaves. I might replace the hard drive though. And I would use something like Puppy or Gentoo, which tend to be pretty lightweight distros.

Lubuntu with modern heavy weight browsers like google chrome will run fine with 1GB of ram.
Recommend you start with this as it is easier to configure.
