Question Which M.2 slot for which SSD?

Hi, I am currently upgrading my system. I have currently 3 M.2 NVMe SSDs:

1. 970 EVO 500GB (that one will be for Windows and C Drive)
2. 970 EVO Plus 1TB (that will be my primary storage for game installations)
3. 960 EVO 250 GB (that will be additional secondary game stuff storage)

My new motherboard has the following M.2 slots. Which one should I use for which of the above listed SSDs?

• M2_1 slot (From CPU)
  • Supports PCIe 4.0 x4
  • Supports 2260/ 2280/ 22110 storage devices
• M2_2 slot (From Z690 Chipset)
  • Supports PCIe 4.0 x4
  • Supports 2260/ 2280 storage devices
• M2_3 slot (From Z690 Chipset)
  • Supports PCIe 4.0 x4
  • Supports SATA 6Gb/s
  • Supports 2242/ 2260/ 2280 storage devices
• M2_4 slot (From Z690 Chipset)
  • Supports PCIe 4.0 x4
  • Supports SATA 6Gb/s
  • Supports 2242/ 2260/ 2280 storage devices

Performance of those 3 drives is as near identical as it can be.
The 4x M.2 ports are all PCIe 4.0 x 4.

So it makes no difference.

Yes, of course. I also need to upgrade from Windows 10 to 11.....for sure making new install

Right.

In terms of drive performance, zero difference.

Width/length of applicable drive, in mm.

The typical size of an NVMe drive is 2280. 22mm wide, 80mm long.
