Hi

I've just installed a heatsink in my PC system, unfortunately it is massive and goes over DDR memory slots 3 and 4 on my motherboard.

I have 2x4gb memory sticks, according to my motherboard manual (Gigabyte GA-A75-UD4H) I should have the memory in DDR slots 1 and 3 or 2 and 4.

So, if I put my memory in slots 1 and 2, will I be at risk of damaging the memory especially if overclocking and motherboard or suffer a loss of over all performance?

Thanks.

no you wont damage anything, the system may not boot, or if it does, the memory may run in single channel as opposed to dual channel.

Give it a try, and see what happens. if it boots, check to see if the memory is running dual or single channel.

In the manual, it should tell you what slots each of your two 4gb memory sticks should be placed into.

Your board likely supports single channel mode.
And dual channel memory mode.

The manual should state where to place the two memory sticks to obtain dual channel memory mode.

Two slot will be the same color and the other two a different color again.

Dual channel mode will be slot 1 and 3 or 2 and 4.
Memory in slots 1 and 2 will result in single channel memory mode that is slightly slower.
But it will work.
