Hi,

I am finalising a new build, and need help with the memory. The PC will be used for:

Work - lots of iterative mathematical calculations - cycles through about 100Mb of RAM, with some initial disk access from a few hundred small files.
Play - Watching DVD's. Photo Editing. No games (too busy working).

C2D E6850 @ 3Ghz
Asus P5K-Deluxe (supporting DDR2-1066 and 1333 FSB)
Gigabyte 2600XT graphics
74Gb WD Raptor (C: Drive)
750Gb WD 7500AAKS (D: drive)
Thermaltake Big Typhoon 120VX
4Gb RAM
Vista 64bit
Case: Antec P182B or Lian Li PC-V1200 Plus (probably the Antec on price grounds).

The problem is the memory:
Considering that the CPU runs at a FSB of 1333Mhz, should I get

1066MHz DDR2 - The Max that the mobo supports, but bad cache latency 5-5-5-15
800MHz DDR2 - Competitively priced and available in low cache latencies such as 3-3-3-10
667Mhz DDR2 - Half the speed of the FSB - so is this a better match than the two above??

What do you think?

Splendid
Intel FSB is quad-pumped:

1333 / 4 = 333.25

& DDR2 is double-rated:

333.25 x 2 = 666.5

So any ram you throw at the pc will run at 666mhz by default, unless you change the bios settings. 800Mhz will save you money if you upgrade the cpu to 1600 FSB (which your board doesn't support).
