Ay mates!

I'm planning on upgrading from a Crucial Ballistix 2GB (4x512MB sticks) PC2-6400 to a 4GB (2x2GB sticks)

I'm using Windows XP SP2 32-bit

But which should I buy? (PC2-6400)

Corsair or OCZ or Mushkin?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2010170147+1052315794+1052416064&name=DDR2+800+(PC2+6400)

Would appreciate any advice and help :sol:

Hello and welcome to the fourms mate :)
Corsair,OCZ and Mushkin are all good brands, go for the RAM that has
4-4-4-x or lower timings and has a good cooling (for example OCZ REAPER rams have good coolings )

I saw this rams on newegg:

Those are Cas Latency 4

And also checked this rams:

Thx for the advice =)

ok i was going to go with either that reaper or the titanium, but havent really decided yet, but there both under a hundred dollars and they both have good timings, the rest are good but overpriced if you ask me

Definitely go for this one :
OCZ REAPER
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227267

it has 4-4-4-15 timings (4-4-4-15 doesnt have a noticeable difference with 4-4-4-12) and also it has a very good cooling
i have 4x1GB OCZ REAPER DDR2 800 RAM with 4-4-4-15 timings and they are solid :)

have u tried to OC those? and how far did u reach?

when i OC i try to lower the timings or set them to default and then i will lower the MHZ of the RAM
i have E6600 @ 3.2 with 1.3 voltage
RAM is @ DDR2 720 with 4-4-4-15 timings + 2.1 voltage
i can do 5-5-5-15 with higher MHZ, but i like lower timings

the good news is that no matter what he chooses, the performance change will be little to none with the conroe processor, since their cache is so efficient. A good set with tight timings and a good reputation for overclocking is what you want, then consider price and you're up and running.

So....should I go 4GB?? or should I stick with 2GB? 😱

What if I buy 4GB Ballistix (4x1gb sticks)??

There's nothing wrong with Crucial Ballistix, I love those rams, but I want to go 4gb, unfortunately I didn't find 4GB Ballistix (2x2gb sticks). That's why I'm looking for other brands...

What do u say? Should I buy those OCZ Reaper? -> http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227267

Or should I buy another one? I leave it up to you :kaola:

Thx again for the advice mates :sol:

Windows xp 32bit does not recognize 4gb. If you plan on upgrading to 64bit windows in the future, pick up 4 now, if not stick with 2

So then I can go XP 64-bit? I use my pc just for gaming and starting on web design, so I hope it works fine!

I really don't like Vista, so I'll stick with XP for a while.

I asked for XP-64bit cuz I'm planning on getting 4GB and I want my OS to detect them with no issues, I've read that XP-32bit can't handle 4gb (just 3.2-3.5gb) and maybe that'll be a waste of money and power.

I really like those GeIL rams (4-4-4-12) and also the OCZ Reaper (4-4-4-15)

Is GeIL a good brand? I read that OCZ it's the best ram, I also checked on those Corsair but they're (5-5-5-18)

I'm starting to make my mind and buy those OCZ Reaper or the Titanium version or those Patriot...

But...The coin's still in the air mates! LOL

BTW I have a MSI P6N Platinum mobo (just in case that matters) :kaola:

anyone know how the cooling on the ocz titanium compares to the reaper? they are the same otherwise, and i wanna boost em up to 850mhz you think itll be a problem with them while keeping them at the 444-15 timings?

to Sonata2k8 :
both OCZ and GEIL are god brands but the GEIL one has 4-4-4-12 timings which is better than the OCZ REAPER 4-4-4-15 one but the difference isnt very much and OCZ REAPER has better cooling

to monste4321:actually the main difference between REAPER and TITANIUM is the cooling that REAPER has, no one can guarantee u to get 850MHZ with 4-4-4-15 timings, u have to test for yourself
