So I have tried several types of repeaters and boosters to enhance my wifi to the room my freshly built $2000 gaming PC and have yet to get usable connections. I have been diving into research on MoCA adaptors and feel like this is the best way to go for me. I have narrowed it down to Actiontec and Motorola for my choices and was wondering if anyone had any experience with either or both? Is the $50 difference because of encryption support? Is it worth the extra money?

The chips inside maybe made by the same company. I am unsure who actually makes motorola stuff. The company was sold off a couple years ago to a bunch of different companies that still use the motorola name. I think the only true motorola company is one that sell the systems used in things like police cars. So far the quality of the stuff that still has the motorola name tends to be quality but we will see how long that lasts.

Actiontec historically has been the leader in moca stuff.

I would suspect either will work fine, like ethernet there are official standards. The only ones you need to watch out for are DECA instead of MoCA. Deca is something directtv uses but they can work in some houses where moca has issues.

Encryption likely is not necessary since the signals should not go outside your house and even if they did they are not going to go that far and someone would have to physically be connected to the coax cable
