I'm looking to buy a new monitor. I'd picked out the BenQ GW2255 because it fit my price range, but the LG 24EN33T will be on sale here during the weekend so now I'm wondering if I should get that instead.

Any advice on which one is better (and why)? My graphics card is a Radeon HD5770. I mostly use my PC for gaming, programming, some graphics work and multimedia.

The contrast ratio for the LG seems to be 1,000:1. Is that better or worse than the BenQ?

I 've read that VA is considered overall better than TN except when it comes to gaming where TN is preferred. Is that true or would VA be the better option regardless?

Is the difference between 3000:1 and 1000:1 very visible?

The LG is a bit cheaper than the BenQ since it's on sale and I don't have to pay for shipping either. I guess my question is (considering that the last monitor I had was a Samsung Syncmaster 18" LCD that I got maybe 5+ years ago), is the difference regarding contrast ratio, etc big enough that the BenQ is the obviously better choice, even considering that the LG is 2" bigger and also cheaper?
