I need your help to decide between two monitors.

Samsung LC24F390FHMXUE curved 24" display with 4 ms (GTG) response time using VA technology, or Dell P2417H 24" with 6 ms (GTG) response time using IPS technology?

Many thanks in advance.

Some quick thoughts from just having looked up their specs...

VA panels like the Samsung has will offer much better contrast than an IPS or TN panel, with deeper blacks. Many VA panels tend to show a bit of purplish ghosting when moving between certain dark shades of gray though.

An IPS panel like the Dell has will likely offer better color accuracy and viewing angles. However, dark areas in IPS screens tend to glow a bit, hurting their contrast.

That particular Dell screen appears to have a much nicer stand, capable of tilt, swivel, height adjustment and even 90 degree pivot to put it in portrait mode. The Samsung's stand, on the other hand, only appears to offer tilt adjustment.

The Dell also has a USB hub, providing USB 2.0...

The Samsung offers FreeSync support, nice to have if gaming on an AMD graphics card.

Aside from resolution, refresh rate and screen size, they are very different monitors.

Good question, I need to use it for day-to-day office work. I work a lot with MS Word documents, and MS Powerpoint presentations. So, I believe color reproduction is important for me, but I'm also looking for a monitor that doesn't strain my eyes if I have to use it for long hours.

Thank you very much cryoburner.

I'm looking for a monitor for day-to-day office work. Most of the time I'll be dealing with MS Word documents, and MS Powerpoint presentations. Hence, I believe color reproduction is important for me, having said that, I still will value more a monitor that doesn't strain my eyes if I have to use it for long hours.

Which one do you think is better for me?

For home entertainment use, I might go with the Samsung. For office use though, I suspect the Dell would be the better option.

The curved screen of the Samsung might potentially take some getting used to for working with lots of text. Also, the detailed adjustment options on the Dell's stand should allow it to be placed in a more optimal viewing position, and easily moved around to face you or others when not seated in your regular position. I actually have an older Dell monitor, and find it great how configurable the stand is.

As for eye strain, that is more difficult to say for sure. I believe both panels have a matte finish, which should reduce reflections, and that is generally good for an office setting.

I really can't thank you enough, cryoburner!

Many thanks for making my decision easier. Appreciate your time.
