I'm looking to replace my ancient Dell E173FP monitor. After some research I've settled on these two choices due to my budget (~$170)

vs
http://www.amazon.com/AOC-i2367Fh-23-Inch-Screen-Monitor/dp/B009V8F700/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

I'm having a hard time deciding between these two, from what I've gathered so far, these are the pros and cons of the two monitors, i'm not too tech-savvy so i could be wrong.

ASUS:

pros:
- slightly bigger (23.6 inch) and sometimes the price on amazon is lower than AOC
- has a lot more reviews and slightly higher rating on amazon
- suggested by many on the internet as a good low-budget monitor

neutral:
- has an overall better look than AOC
- 2 ms response time (not a big deal to me)
- I've heard of good and bad things about the costumer service
- mixed reviews about color quality

cons:
- many complaints about defective pixels and apparently Asus does not cover them
- many complaints about flimsy/wobbly stand
- some complaints about the monitor having various types of screen defects after some time
- not an IPS panel
- no integrated speakers

AOC:

pros:
- IPS panel
- slightly cheaper at the moment

neutral:
- 5 ms response time (not a big deal to me)
- i know it isn't bezel-less, i'm not looking for a dual monitor setup so it doesn't matter to me, however the black border does look a bit awkward
- some people complain about the buttons being in an awkward place but that doesn't seem like a problem
- the integrated speakers aren't that good
- no VESA mount, but it doesn't matter because i don't want one

cons:
- there are some complaints about the stand being wobbly or uneven but not as much as ASUS
- some complaints about half of the screen turning pink/purple (a bit worrisome since there are a number of people who had this problem)
- i have never heard of the AOC brand until my friend brought it up, therefore i don't know the quality of their products or their costumer service

As for me, i'm not a hardcore gamer but i do play a lot of games. However I feel like the image quality is more important than the response time. Basically, the many complaints about the ASUS monitor gives me a lot of doubts whether to buy it or not despite its popularity. However I have not heard much about the AOC monitor so i'm also unsure. Any help would be very much appreciated, an alternative would be fine too if it's in the price range.

EDIT: i found another monitor, the ViewSonic VA2349S, it's a lot cheaper than the two but i haven't done research on this one yet. http://www.amazon.com/ViewSonic-VA2349S-23-Inch-SuperClear-LED-Lit/dp/B00F0834T6/ref=zg_bs_1292115011_3

2ms is really important for BF4, but for Skyrim IPS is more important. So it depends. I have never played on a 5ms IPS but I have on a 8ms IPS. And for fast pace gaming I need to use my 2ms Asus.
I own a Asus monitor like the one you linked and love it for gaming. However, for movies and picture quality, my Dell IPS is way better. I'd only advise buying a 2ms Asus if you need fast gaming. Otherwise IPS wins. My vote is that AOC monitor. My mate has a 27" one and it looks awesome.

Even as a gamer, if I had to get one monitor I'd go 5ms IPS.

Is 2ms really that important for gaming? A lot of people say you can't really tell the difference.

Thanks, I play games that aren't very fast-paced so i think i'll go with AOC, still worried about the costumer support etc though.

I can't speak about their customer support but I wouldn't be too worried. AOC isn't a big player but makes very good quality monitors. In the future I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. The one you chose looks nice and clean and will look fantastic for everything.
