RAM: Best all-around based on current reviews and feedback is the G. Skill Flare-X at 3200.
Mobo: ASRock Taichi is one of if not the highest rated/reviewed board at the moment. You need to do your research, read reviews on tech sites and customer reviews on places like Newegg. "Jimmy", generally, has no clue what he's saying on either question.
ASUS's most popular and feature-filled board is the Crosshair Hero VI. At rough $250+, it's pricey for essentially a few more USB connections than the Taichi and fewer SATA ports. I have had numerous ASUS boards in the past up through AM3+ and I chose the Taichi this time and could not be more happy with it.
Fact is, lots of RAM and several competent motherboards will work just fine...
