I've considered the non 'k' version CPU i7-6700 for my PC but when it comes to motherboards I'm quite lost on which one to choose. What information is needed to correctly choose one that fits my needs?

Solution
First and foremost you need to make sure it has the correct socket then its how much RAM you want which shouldn't be a problem as most mobo's support more RAM than you need. After that look at PCI sots so how many GPU's youre going to run and what clearance you need. If you go to www.pcpartpicker.com It will let you know any incompatibilities you might have as you build your PC

If your using a non K and a single card setup , go for a H170.

Thx for the suggestions blackbird, yeah I plan on just using one GPU at this time and just 2 sticks of 8GB RAM. I want to use an internal SSD 250-500GB and would like the option to add another down the road if I need more space or an HDD possibly.

I would go with a H170 board for your needs , a good fit.

^^ What do you think of my build Blackbird? Should I go with a bit more expensive motherboard? From the specs I think it looks ok to me. Not sure about ASRock if they are a bad product to go with but they seem to specialize in mobo's. If you have any suggestions or think I should spend more or less on other parts let me know. Thanks.

Aside from H170, you could always go with a cheaper chipset such as the H110 and B150 if you think that the features of H170 won't benefit you such as RAID. Alternatively, you may also use Z170 even if you're using a non K CPU if you want to use high MHz memory as well as the ability later on to SLI or upgrade to a K CPU.
