Im looking to replace my Arctic Cooler Alpine with a different CPU cooler so i can push my overclock farther. I have a RoseWill MicroATX MiniTower (FBM-05) for my case and its kind of small and i dont think a watercooler will fit which is why im asking for air. I only have about 16cm between the motherboard and the side of the case. I was wondering if i would be safe to get the Noctua nh-u12s or the nh-u9s. The nh-u12s has a height (with fan) of 158mm and the nh-u9s has a height (with fan) of 125mm. Should i get the smaller one just to be safe, or should i just get one of the low profile coolers?? Also i'd have to mount the cooler with the NM-I3 mounting kit because my MoBo has socket type LGA775. Or what are some other high end coolers that i could consider buying??

I actually just bought a new case online today. Idk when ill be getting it but im pretty excited

This is the case i bought https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00FX5FUHA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And were you saying that the case i have is not intended for a gaming/overclocking system??

the case from initial post had very anemic airflow. that means that the heat can not be effectively removed from the case. so if you put a power hungry overclocked CPU (can be way over 100 watt) + gaming GPU (most of them are 150-250 watt TDP), the temperature withing case will rise significantly during load. that will result in higher components temperature as the coolers are working on the temperature difference to dissipate heat. Air or liquid coolers can not go below ambient. So naturally you want your case to be well ventilated to keep the case temperature close to room temperature.

My ambient room temperature is generally 22C and the inside of my computer while idling is 27C (I have a small room temp thermometer i put in there so i can see the temps in my case). Also i have actually Screwed an 80mm case fan to the side of my case as intake to improve airflow and blow some cooler air right directly into my cpu cooler. Since i have installed that fan my PC temps have actually dropped about 3-5C. Inside my pc case dropped from 32C to 27C and my idle cpu core temps dropped from 45C to about 40-41C. My temps also became lower while under full load as well with the max temp dropping about 6C allowing me to run my E8600 OC'd to 3.66GHz without my core temps going over 70C
