Question Which NVME M.2 is better for my motherboard?

What processor have you paired onto the motherboard's socket? How much do each of those Samsung drives cost you? If the cost is the same and we have to choose between the two listed above, then my vote goes for the 970 Evo Plus.

Make sure you're on the latest BIOS update prior to dropping CPU/ram/M.2 drives as upgrades onto the motherboard.

Ryzen 5 5600x,

980 is 55€

970 evo plus is 65€

I would tend towards the 970 option. The bare 980 has not got a DRAM cache, this can hurt transfer speeds.

The OP listed prices in euros.
BestBuy does not exist there.

Also, the motherboard is PCIe 3.0.
990 is PCIe 4.0.
Spending extra money for performance that can't be obtained.

Unless the op is looking to upgrade his motherboard a less expensive PCIe3 SSD will work fine. There is no benefit from the 990 drive.
