This is my first post so tell me if this is the wrong section. I found these two builds, http://pcpartpicker.com/p/H9ffD3

I don't want to spend over $500 because I'm in college and not a serious gamer. I do not know a ton about building computers. I just want something that will run most games fairly well. Based on my research, Intel and AMD processors are both good but for different things. Just give me your opinion on these builds and throw in any that you think would be better. All I will use this for is light gaming, Netflix and school work. I already have a monitor so that doesn't have to be included in the build. Thanks!

Do you need an Operating system?

To save a bit of money for now, to save him buying a OS he should get Linux, Or Windows 10.

I do need an operating system. I'm coming from only having a Macbook Pro. So I will need to buy Windows. I wish I could buy it today but sadly I'm looking for more towards christmas time.

Windows 10 is in "technical preview" but im using it and i havent noticed anything major missing, and it has not crashed once, so to save money he should download it instead of another $100 for Windows 7/8.1
