Which would be the better board for overclocking the aging FX-8350? The Asus M5A99X EVO or the Asrock 970A-G/3.1? And why? Both boards are in mint condition.

I know the FX-8350 is old and slow by today's standards, but I'm poor, it's what I have, (and the PCIex16 slot is broken on my old board). Besides, I'm still satisfied with the ancient CPU.

The ASUS has the more updated chipset so it would be the better option if they are the same price. In reality you probably won't see any noticable performance difference between the 2 boards.

Confusing. I can live w/o the unnecessary type-C port.
Btw, what did you mean by "The Asus is a good midrange with a cut down features on 990 chipset. "? The Asus has the better 990X chipset.
On introduction of the AM3+ there were 3 chipsets, 970, 990X and FX990. Very few boards made the market with the 990X which was cut down version of the FX990 which was full featured. Other budget chipsets migrated up from AM3.
