I'm long overdue for a new PC. My current machine is about five years old and just restarts when it does eventually boot up, even in safe mode.

I do a lot of graphic and video processing (in particular design and photo editing is my job). I want longevity out of my new machine; I need it to run a lot of simultaneous processes at once. While I don't play PC games and can't see this changing the sales people told me at Chillblast that a dedicated graphics card will help with Photoshop too. It also keeps the option of playing games open (especially as I hope this machine will last some time).

I think I've narrowed it down to two machines but I'm not sure which is best.

I already have a spare Windows 7 retail key and a spare optical drive which I can put into the Chillblast machine. I did do a self build on my last machine about 10 years ago and it was a nightmare, I really struggled. I couldn't get the CPU fan on. I couldn't install Windows as the MB didn't recognise my optical drive and needed drivers, I had a faulty cable and it caused a lot of tears. I'm a bit scarred by it and not sure I could ever do it again!

Thanks for reading all this! I should add my actual PC budget is £500 so I'm a bit over already, if there is a better option that is closer to this please let me know!

Out of those two builds the first one has a better cpu and the 2nd one has a better gpu. If i had to pick one of those without a plan to upgrade. I would pick the 2nd one. As for pre assembled pc i dont really know much that would be better but i will say this if you want to put a pc together yourself. Then you could get a better bang for your buck.

Thanks for the replies. I'm more graphics/photos than video so that isn't the main factor, but it is more important than gaming.

When I tried to put together a basket of PC parts I just confused myself and it came out to more than the pre-built ones. I think this could be my ignorance though.
