Please don't laugh to hard. I have the choice of two older mobo's to update my even older setup.

1. nForce 780i SLI
Part Number
132-CK-NF78-A1
CPU Support
Intel Socket 775
Chipset
NVIDIA nForce 780i SLI Chipset

And

2. GA-X38-DQ6 (rev. 1.0)
Supports Intel® Core 2™ multi-core and 45nm processors
Support for 1600 MHz FSB.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 CPU

Memory 8Gb DDR2 800Mhz

Video card REAL OLD.

I'm not looking for a gamer. I may play with overclocking. I Check email, surf and watch a few videos on youtube and a few other sites. Which board should I use, and if you feel like it, why?

Since you are not gaming I assume you plan to not SLI therefore the only advantage the 780i board has is pointless.

Either way I would go with the X38 over the 780i board. Intels chipsets are superior to nVidias and there were a lot of issues with nVidias chipsets back in the day.

Neither. Fewer and fewer game developers are going out of their way to support sli or crossfire. These days folks get a single powerful gpu instead of two cheaper ones (except at the high end where people are spending $2.6k on sli to drive high refresh 4k monitors).
