Question Which one for Ryzen....

OK I just built my son a Ryzen rig.

Win 10
MSI x470 gaming plus
Ryzen 5 2600
GTX 1060
16gb RAM ADATA 2400
Corsair 650 psu

I keep hearing and reading about Ryzens sliver bullet being fast RAM. Is my current ram good for the cpu?
What ram do yall recommend for that mobo/cpu?
what do yall think about the cpu/gpu combo?

2400 is slow for a Ryzen Setup , I would have done at least 3000mhz.

Well thank you Dark. Just an FYI MSI tech support said to go with 2400 and that 3000 is overkill for gaming. hmmmm.

LOL nothing is overkill when it comes to RAM speed for Ryzen.

3000 or even better 3200mhz is the absolute sweet spot for Ryzen and gaming on it.

is your 16gb dual channel? If you see CPU is limiting FPS, I will try to overclock it for now since you have already built it. For GTX 1060 and gaming @ 1080p, I think even 2400 is still fine. GPU will limit your FPS under very high-ultra setting anyway. For 100+ Fps, you do want 2666+ ram. Those tech supports lack training and are useless. Ask here is your better bet. I will just enjoy the new build and only worry about it if you see any CPU limiting.

I wouldn't run anything less than 3000 on Ryzen.

Most games today are demanding enough that going with higher speed RAM on Ryzen does make a difference.
