Why those two in particular?

A Sandy/Ivy Bridge i5 would be the best of the lot if going for used parts off the web.

Athlon 860k hands down a better CPU all around.

Tough call. Pretty close, I'm thinking. The newer Athlon X4 860K platform should be slightly better for gaming than the 1156 socket dual core platform. Plus, the 860K can be easily OC'ed, and it uses faster RAM.
