Hello, I'm thinking of buying a new GPU and was wondering if somebody could tell me which one is a better choise?

Palit GTX 770 JetStream 4Gb or ASUS GTX 970 Strix?

I'm also wondering what would be the best GPU for gaming with pricing under 400EUR/450USD. (Better than those two)

I appreciate every answer I get! :)

ps. I'm not into AMD's GPUs, sorry 🙂

The gtx 970 is about 40% faster than the 770, go with the GTX 970. Really no video cards in the $350-$450 range other than the GTX 780 Ti and i'd get the GTX 970 for ~$350 over it. Your only other option in your budget range is the r9 290x, but once again i'd get a GTX 970 over that - they perform pretty much the same but the 970 uses 75w-100w less power.

I would say r9 290x. It truely has 4gb of vram and supports freesync which will be nice because a lot of new monitors will come with adaptive sync as part of the new display port spec. The 290x can be found cheaper than the 970 and they trade blows back and fourth in terms of performance.

I doubt my comment holds water though because usually when someone asks this or this, and both are Nvidia cards. It means they want Nvidia. I don't like to be a fanboy, I go with best performance per dollar and it's usually AMD.

I agree that the r9 290x is more performance per dollar if you only include upfront costs but then again the GTX 970 is only about $20 more. But due to the fact that the r9 290x uses about 30-40% more power that "performace per dollar" quickly shifts to the GTX 970. So if you only plan to use this card for less than a year or so you might actually get better performance per dollar with a r9 290x (assuming you pay your electricity bill and not someone else).

I appreciate all of your efforts 🙂 I have found my own solution out of your answers! As I first planned, I am getting the 970.. Was thinking about the 290x but I know how Nvidia works so.. 😀 THANK YOU!
