Hi.. I have two HDD for my system. 500GB and 1 TB, I am wondering which HDD would be most suitable for being the Primary drive in terms of system performance. Suggest me guys!

Solution

No, that is incorrect

Say you have a open 2ft by 2ft box and you have a open 2ft by 4ft box. Now lets say both boxes were full of 1ft by 1ft boxes (thus 4 in the 2x2 box and 8 in the 2x4 box). It takes the exact same effort to pull a small box out of...
The capacity doesn't really matter, since both have enough space to hold the OS and essential programs. However, if one of them is a faster drive, you'll probably want that one for the OS. Do you know the RPM ratings and cache size of both HDD's?

post name of both of your HDD here so we can give you some suggestion

Size is irrelevant in regards to performance.

Might as well ask what color makes a car go faster.

Assuming both drives are the same rpm, you would have the 500gb as the primary and 1tb as secondary because that way you can backup the 500gb drive to the 1tb.

Now if your 500gb is a green series or other 5400 rpm drive and the 1tb is a 7200rpm drive then the 7200rpm drive is going to be noticeably faster.

both are WD caviar blue...but my points exists with the lag and performance....I am not sure but I think that 1TB being the primary drive would take more memory and power to load the windows once it is loaded with the data

I seriously doubt you would be able to tell the difference between them if they are both the same kind of drive at the same speeds. The larger drive probably just has more platters or higher density, so there isn't really a difference in speed. And even if there was, you simply would not be able to notice it. Same thing with power consumption; a 1TB drive should not consume measurably more power than a 500GB drive.

For further information I would like to know, if I had 500GB blue and 1TB black...which one would have been the better choice for being the primary drive?

cool man....that helped :)

The WD Black is slightly better performance. It's a small difference; if I recall correctly, the Black spins down less, so power consumption is slightly higher, but it gets slightly better performance. It's still not a huge difference, but you would be justified in using the Black as your main drive then.
