Hi! I am going to take a new graphic card, but i am really confused which one should i take, i am looking at ATi 9600XT or Nvidia 5900 Ultra, which one of these are better that can last for an year or so. Also i want to know that how much i can O/C them to perform well in the games.

The jury is up between those two.

Both are awesome cards; you can't really go wrong with either.

The 5900 has alot of power and bandwidth, the 9600XT has more shader power & finesse. And the 9600XT comes with the Half Life 2 voucher.

Still, I lean towards the 5900. It's a pretty powerful card for the price.

[EDIT] 5900 ULTRA? Oh heck, I thought you were comparing the 9600XT to the 5900 non-ultra/XT/se
Hell, yes. That's easy... go 5900 ULTRA[EDIT]

5900U!!!!!

EDIT: forgot to say why: lots more power than 9600XT. Shaders are worse, but nVidia's Software team seems to have done well with the hardware team's F-up. Raw bandwidth should make up for the worsened shaders anyway.

Maxtor disgraces the six letters that make Matrox.
Edited by Vapor on 01/13/04 12:46 PM.

I'd be inclined to go with the 5900U. If you were comparing same line video cards I'd be inclined to go with the 9600xt.

97.7% of the time the FX5900U.

And the times that favour the FX5900U will likely do so at a large margin, whereas the R9600XT's RARE premium will amount to a small advantage.

If priced identical, this ATI fan would grab the FX5900U in a second. But from what I have seen, the FX5900 Ultra is at least $100-$150 more. Then I'd grab the radeon 9600XT and HL2 for sure. Please correct me if I am wrong, but aren't 5900 Ultra's still priced as high as Radeon 9800 pro's? Also be careful because the names used for cards are tricky to figure out. Worst of all is Gainward where names such as FX5900 FX Ultra 1100, which is an FX5900 (non-Ultra) card. Gainward makes great cards, but their naming scheme seems made in order to profit by deceit.

Man seriously, focus. You need to convert to metric BEFORE you take the derivative. Rookie mistake!
