Hello all.. :)

I'm in a confusing situation right now, between upgrading my CPU or my graphics card + display (LCD).
Plus my budget is limited, about 700 dollar. 🙁
I hope this is the right forum for me to ask about this.

Here is my specification right now:
- Intel 2600 (non K)
- 8GB of RAM
- MSI Motherboard
- On board sound card
- On board VGA/GPU.
- Samsung 27" 1920x1080.

Actually i'm not a hardcore gamer, i play game just to killing time, like BF4, GTA V, etc..

If i want to upgrade my graphics card + display, i'd like to buy:
- an 4k Samsung display.
- Nvidia GTX 950

but if i want to upgrade my CPU, i need to buy the mobo and RAM too, so:
- Intel i7 6700k
- Motherboard Z170
- 16GB RAM of DDR4

My question is simple, if you were me as a non hardcore gamer, which "path" will you take?
Upgrade the CPU, RAM, and MOBO or Display+GPU?
Thanks is advance guys.. 😀

I ran a 980 Ti with a 2600K until a few weeks ago when I upgraded to this 6700K. If you're not a hardcore gamer then do a platform upgrade now and pick up a graphics card later this year when the new 16nm cards from Nvidia and AMD are released. They will offer quite a bit more performance for the money at each price point.

As mcnumpty23 said a GTX 950 won't play anything other than solitaire at 4K. Even a 980 Ti will struggle there.

best option:

keep your current setup

buy a 1440p monitor with a r9 390 + proper power supply

for 4k gaming you need minimum gtx 980 ti, ideally two in sli

Buying a GPU right now is such a terrible idea when a new generation of cards is coming out in a few months that might be as much as 40-50% faster clock for clock. We should finally see a true 1 card solution for 4K with these new cards. Not that it will be cheap or anything.

this is the best solution for him at his budget I would think

when the newer cards are released he can then choose to upgrade to 4k at leisure since he's not hardcore about things

390 + 1440p is sooo beyond his current setup it's already a win for him
