Which PC is Better

Solution
In pure value of parts. The custom gaming computer has more value.

However, the keyboard and mouse are ridiculously expensive. The seller is killing any chance of a good sales price. Too much money has been locked up in those parts. They only have value to a small group of people. Most of the people which buy a keyboard and mouse that expensive are in the market for a vastly higher end gaming computer. They should be sold separately.

The Alienware is the superior gaming computer. It is much faster. It will get you more gaming performance per dollar. Looking at recent sales on eBay of similarly spec'ed Alienware systems\. $1000 Canadian is too high. They go for C $850 to C $900 used. Plus, with eBay you get all sorts of buyer...

Specs:
- CPU: Intel Core i5 6400 K Skylake
- Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960
- Motherboard: ASRock Z170A-X1/3.1
- Memory: 16GB DDR4 (Dual Channel)
- Storage: OS (Operating System) is on a 256 GB Samsung SSD as well as an addition 1TB Seagate hard drive (unknown but runs amazing)

vs

Desktop computer
Specs.
Windows 10
Intel core i7-6700
8 GB ram
NVIDIA GTX 970

I prefer the alienware with a big BUT. It doesn't have ssd, but its i7 gonna help with recording. 8Gb ram might become a problem in the future.
The other option has much weaker cpu and gpu. The i5 will surely become main trouble, and the GTX 960 has short life left for overall satisfaction.

I would recommend you to build new pc. The result will be far better than these second hand.

The overbudget were mainly because you need HDD for storage.

Good luck

I was gonna put samsung 960 Evo 250GB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive but its will be over budget ($174).
With that samsung 960 evo, your build will become complete. The build will only need gpu upgrade in the future until the end of its life.

its canada. Parts are more expensive there

Person to person as is cash sales should knock an additional 15% off the price. I'd start with an offer of C $650 and be prepared to walk away at C $800.

As for the custom computer. The highest I would go would be C $650 for the desktop (and Windows 10 disk) only. Unless you want that high end keyboard, mouse, (cheap) monitor and overpriced mousepad. Then I suppose C $900 would be fair for the lot.

As for them saying how much they paid. That is completely irrelevant. That was then. This is now.
