All new components on my first build, XFX 1000W black PSU has 3 PCI-E cables, one marked CH13, and two marked BH13. Which should I plug into GTX 1080 Founders card? Is there any difference?
they come with those 6 to 8 pin adapters at times, but they won't come with cables for your specific psu. that's never gonna happen but if CableMod sells the single pcie cable you want, then you're good to go with one of those.
Your power supply has SIX PCIe power cables. They are all 6+2 cables. Those look like the cables below on the right side of this picture. The 6+2 cables can be used as 6 pin (leaving the other two loose pins dangling, or as an u pin by inserting both the pin and 2 pin parts as a single 8 pin cable. Look at the top rear of the video cards for the 1 or 2 power connectors yours has. 8 pin sockts must have an 8 (or 6+2) pin cable. Obviously, a 6 pin socket can only use 6 pins, eve n if that is the 6 pins of the 6+2 cable.
You also have 11 SATA power cables, like these (except that most cables use all black wires anymore...
I am not sure what the CH13 and BH13 letterng js. That is not something I ever remember seeing.
I have THREE two into one PCIe cables - two 6+2 pin plugs feeding into one 12 pin that plugs into the PSU. All the plugs are shaped the same, but the CH13 uses sans serif font for it's PCI-E stamp and has CH13 stamped 90 degrees from the two BH13 cables:
And I have to post my pic somewhere as I can't upload it. Gimme a sec.
So I guess I just stuff the unused 6+2 plug cable behind my case panel until I can get a proper 8 pin PCIe cable?
the 6+2 is a proper 8 pin. they all come like that so you can use it either way.
just tuck the extra(s) 6+2 out of the way and it'll be good to go
Cool. By proper I just meant a single cable length without the extra plug =]
Not having excess cables snarling my airflow was one reason behind getting a fully modular PSU, after all.
I can guarantee you that a 1000 watt power supply is going to have more than 3 PCIe power cables. At least it will if it is from a company that makes high quality power supplies, and since all XFX power supplies are made by Seasonic, that is a high quality unit.

i see what your saying not sure if they sell those but always worth a look

Maybe its not a 1000 watt power supply.\?
It has 6 PCIe ends, but they are double cables with two 6+2 ends feeding into one 12 pin PSU plug per cable, so it forms a V shape. So it can supply 6 PCIe devices, but there are only 3 discrete cables.

I just checked CableMod Configurator based on what MarkW said about it being a Seasonic under the skin, and what my PSU supplied are three dual 6+2 pin PCIe cables, and what I need is one 8 pin PCIe cable - which are sold as well. It's just that while the GTX 1080 Founders cards are all identical, what comes with them is not - I chose Asus, which, unlike some of the other brands, did not come with that specific power cable bundled in the package.

Well, they sell the 8 pin PCIe cable for the Seasonic P-Series XPS 1050W, which I think Linus Tech Tips mentioned as being what this XFX was based off of, but I'll wait and see if CableMod comes up with a cable set for my actual model. Checking with the XFX site wouldn't hurt, (and I will) but I find that generally I get better info from enthusiast sites like TH and even third-party suppliers than I get from manufacturers.
I still don't know what the difference between BH13 & CH13, but it's a moot point - GPU is installed and system turns on - now I have to install the OS and update the BIOS and drivers. All the really fun stuff. My real question relates as to why modular PSU manufacturers have proprietary pinsets when they don't even offer aftermarket cables? There're some real horror story threads on Reddit that convinced me to NEVER swap cables between brands, and not even within a single brands model line. I guess that's just the brotherhood of business that I hear so much about - Corsair and Silverstone must send out some really nice holiday cards to the other brands (especially Seasonic) for letting them have the whole cable aftermarket by not working to standardize modular cables.
I do hope the CableMod decides to make a cableset for my PSU, because my Evolv under-compartment resembles a nest of baby snakes that you can't fit a screwdriver into for all the excess cable stuffed in there.

Hey man, u will be wasting your money if you will buy a single 8pin pci-e cable. I guess you cant even buy a single 8 pin cable because all of them are 6+2pins. No psu manufacturer manufactures whole 8pin. If constricted airflow is your issue in deciding to buy a whole 8 pin, does it really matter? it will just be dangling away by a few centimeters.
