Which power cable do I connect to my hard drive?

I'm new to the whole computer thing and I'm just experimenting on an old PC to learn myself more about PC's.

Today's project was to replace the hard drive with a new one. I removed the old one and put in the new one.

I wanted to connect all the cables again but when I wanted to connect the power cable, I ran into a problem; I suddenly noticed there were 2 power cables in the PC. I didn't know there were 2 (otherwise I would have marked the one that is supposed to go into the hard drive) but now I suddenly noticed it. Now I don't know which one to connect to my harddrive.

As you can see in the picture, there's one cable that comes from the PSU, and that one is connected to another cable which goes to a fan and has a power cable attached to it (the one in the top left). But the cable that comes from the PSU has another power cable attached to it as well (the one in the bottom right)

So one of the two power cables will go into the harddisk but I don't know which one and I don't know enough about PC's so I'm scared I'll blow the PC up by chosing the wrong one.

Can someone help me please? Thanks a lot in advance!!!

Those are molex cables - doesn't matter which you use as that fan connector has a passthrough on it.

However they only fit ide drives - did you replace your hard drive with another ide model?? As those cables won't fit a sata drive.

Your system must be old .

Can't plug a square peg into a round hole? 😀

Am going to guess you purchased a modern hard drive with SATA connectors, while the picture shows, you are using an old-old-old power supply unit that doesn't have SATA power connectors. No fear however, all you need is an adapter like THIS.

Looking forward that comes next? 😀
