I am considering getting a 3850 agp card for my system. I need to know if I need to upgrade the power supply to use the card. Currently, the system has a Enermax EG465P-VE, which is rated to 460 watts. I believe it has a single 20 Amp rail. Will that be enough for this card?
I also have a Mushkin XP-650 power supply that I am not using. I could put that in the system if it would allow me to use the card. I think the Mushkin has 4 20 Amp rails, so I don't know if it is really an upgrade from the Enermax. It has more total power, but the rails are still limited to 20 Amps.
If the 3850 would be too much for either of these power supplies, I could either invest in a new power supply or go for a slightly less powerful card. There is a 3650 for $40 less than the 3850. How much performance am I giving up? This is for a P4 2.4 ghz with 2 gigs of ram, so the system may bottleneck the more powerful card making it not the right choice. I'm not sure which card to get.
If I go with a new power supply to run the 3850, what power supply would you recommend? I would like to spend as little as possible(obviously), but would like to get a quality power supply. Do I need something with a single, high amp rail? The newegg page for the 3850 recommends a 450 watt power supply with a 30 Amp rail.
