Which processor is better for playing games AMD Opteron 6128 2.0GHz 8-Core processor or Intel Core i7 2600

I am going to get my new PC assembled and I stumbled upon these two processors: Intel Core i7 2600 and AMD Opteron 6128 2.0GHz 8-Core. They are within my price range.
Can you tell me which one should I prefer to play games with Full Graphics?? Could you also suggest me any good Graphic Card that support 3D? Please make sure that graphic card should not costs more than $600.
My friends told me that I need to get a specific motherboard for my processor and Grp Crd and not just any random motherboard will work. IS IT TRUE??? I am noob in such cases. I am simple guy who just like intense gaming experience.
Please help me out! I will really appreciate it! Thanx

a core i5 3570k with a good z77 motherboard (e.g. asus p8z77-v, z77-v pro, gigabyte z77-ud5/ud4) should be good for gaming. if you can affor a core i7, then 3770k.
for nvidia 3d, gtx 670/680 should be suitable. although 2x of those in sli would be better (will break your gfx card budget of $600).

I wouldn't suggest using a server processor for gaming. If you're only gaming, get an i5 3570k, it'll have almost the same exact performance in gaming as an i7.
If you're going with the i5 3570k, get an LGA 1155 socket motherboard.

yes it can. but you'll need a strong gfx card for games like crysis 3. you'll see both gfx cards and cpu benches here:

overclocking means getting extra speed out of your hardware by manipulating it's settings. in cpus' case it means by enabling them to run at higher clockrate ('over'clock) than default/stock settings.

Why on earth are you considering a Opteron, FX8320/50 and if you are not really a hardcore gamer then a FX6300 will more than keep you happy.

My recommendation goes to the i5 3570k or 2500k. If gaming is your primary concern, the i7 offers no benefit over the i5 for the extra cost. The latest AMD processors are good(x3xx, NOT x1xx series), but intel is still superior.

For overclocking you want a 1155 Z77 motherboard with a 3570k processor, along with a CPU cooler, like the $25 Hyper 212. If you do not wish to overclock get a B75 motherboard with a 3470 processor.

You have a $600 bedget for a graphics card? That's plenty. 7950's can be had for $280-$300, and are really great performers. IF you want the best 7970 is better, but for 1080p gaming I think 7950 is enough. If you like Nvidia the 670 can be had for around $350 now I think, but 7950 is nearly as good and a bit cheaper.

Look at those benchmarks of Crysis 3 and try to tell me again that 4100 processors can run the game on max settings. It shows that intel processors are better at the game.

It doesnt matter that intel changes their sockets either since you can run with the same processor for 3+ years without having to upgrade. Many people are still running the first generation of Core i series and have no trouble playing games. My 2500k @ 4.4Ghz hasn't once been a problem for me and I doubt it will be for quite some time.

So I don't see how you can say the 4170 and 8150 are more reasonable priced than intel. They are beaten out by Pentiums and Core i3's, which are cheaper.

First of all, the Opteron is a server processor. It requires ECC RAM, and a Socket G34 motherboard; both of which are expensive and really not tailored to giving good gaming experiences.

Second, the i7-2600 is a good CPU for the money, especially if you can find one for cheap. They run a bit hot, and the stock performance is a bit low compared to the new generation of CPUs. They're still great for gaming.

However, I would recommend the i5-3570 instead of the i7-2600. The i5-3570 will definitely handle any game you want it to. As for a graphics card, for around $420 the AMD Radeon HD 7970 is a fantastic choice.

To answer your question about the motherboards, yes it needs to be somewhat specific. Right now for Intel desktop processors you need an LGA1155 socket with the Z77 chipset. If you were buying an AMD desktop processor, then you would need a Socket AM3+ motherboard with the 900 series chipset.

I meant to say HIGH settings, my mistake. I also said the AMD offerings($104.99 for the FX 4100) are more reasonably priced than the i5-3570k($219.00), not the Pentiums and Core i3's. How about a 6300($139.99) or the 8350?($199.99) Both Still cheaper than the comparable Intel offerings. Take a look at Cryteks system requirements for Crysis 3.

It's not necessarily the cpu that you need to be worried about with playing the games. Don't get me wrong a good cpu is needed but what you need to rely on is the gpu. That's where you need a decent card to play the newer games.. And it's hard when you ask for advice from fanboys as they will tell you that one is more superior over the other. It all boils down to what you want.. Best thing to do is do some research. Look at benchmarks Some cards perform better in other games and if they do it seems it's never by much. And you also dont need a 250 dollar MOBO either lol. For Crysis 3 i would look at either a nvidia based 670 or a amd based 7970. Off retailers such as Gigabyte, Evga, Msi, Asus, Zotac etc.

1) Opteron is not ideal for multi purpose systems.

2) i7 2600 is only beneficial if you have content production workloads or rendering. Otherwise it is just a $150 more expensive part than what you need.

3) The two choices will be 3570 and the 8350. If you have heavy workloads but also want gaming muscle then the 8350 is more flexible. If you are just gaming then the 3570 is better albeit $30 more for not that much more performance in gaming terms.

But there's more to it than just Ghz and number of cores. Piledriver and especially Bulldozer have significantly worse architecture than Intel. Their IPC and overall single threaded performance is no match for intel CPU's. When games or programs can use 6-8 cores then the new Piledriver chips can compete, but if only 4 or less cores are used, Intel wins.

Ok, I have the fx 8150 and and 7950 in crossfire and it plays any game. main reason I have to gpu's for other task. But saying that amd is horrible for gaming is just plain nonsense. Your either a fangirl or never own an amd cpu. I have tried all cpu's and for my money I chose amd. Now yes intel's cpus provide better benchmarks. if your looking for a good cpu for gaming any 4 core cpu with a decent gpu will give you the result you want. an intel i5 or fx 4 core or six core with 8 gigs of ram and a decent gpu will give you very good result. those that buy an i7 or and 8150 for just pure gaming is pretty stupid. If your going to do things were multi thread is required the i7 with hyper threading or the fx 6 core or 8 core is sufficient.
