Can I use 1×16 gb Corsair vengeance ram instead of 2×8gb for the Asus z390 e motherboard?

according to the Asus ROG Strix Z390-E Gaming Memory QVL 16GB single stick are supposed in some cases (see link for make/model supported) for compatibility.
But to be honest for dual channel ability, I would like previously mentioned, support you to get 2x8GB instead.
