Which RAM for Asus M5A97 R2.0 & AMD FX 8350

Hi All.

I went through the Qualified Vendors and some posts here but am still not sure which RAM to get for this setup:
Asus M5A97 R2.0
AMD FX 8350
Heavy Gaming Use
(Getting by with Nvidia 460 v 2)

I only want 8Gig, and it seems 1600 Mhz is the best way to go per benchmarks/price.

I *probably* won't overclock -- at least not anytime soon.

I prefer to not make bios changes (will if I have to) and keep the price reasonable.
My CMOS is updated to 1708.

(P.S. I've read some people have problems with the board and RAM so want something known to work)

QVLs are pretty much useless. For an 8GB set you should be looking at 1866MHz, it scales well when kept to 8GB.

Great Thanks! I was following another recommendation posted here about the 1600 speed but with negligible price difference and a promo to boot, that sounds really good.

Corsair vegeance have a wide compatibility with many boards..
Well, at least i've never heard any complain about motherboard incompatibility with vegeance memory..
and this one works very well with my Asus crosshair V mobo and my crappy (but actually very good ) biostar ta990fxe..

I was going to go with Corsair originally, so thanks for the reply Quaddro. I'm impressed with the reviews, rating price and guarantee of this particular G.Skill. -- hopefully my Asus M5A97 R2.0 likes it. I'm running 4G of 1066 ram (leftover part from dead PC) and the PC isn't happy (refresh problems)-- hope this is the reason. My GPU though older tests OK.

Corsair has been the most consistent over the years, but from about 5 years ago, G.skill has been pushing the limits and forcing competition with Corsair, they have become REALLY good and are setting the trend. You can always return the RAM if it does not work.
Especially considering you can get that RAM tomorrow at only 65$.

That's good to know. I'll pass the word on. I think (some) legacy users like me still tend to stick with older but reliable names out of habit. But things change...(re: western digital ugh) -- Albeit I know Vengence RAM has a good rep.

Jip, I have Corsair(G.skill not very easily available where I live) but know a few people that are VERY happy with G.skill.

Well I ordered it. Hopefully the uefi bios will be easy, and I don't have to mess with voltage, or better yet it will just recognize it. Even if it defaults to 1600 as long as it starts up normally -- so I can come back and ask more questions. lol

And I have my old RAM which put me more at ease about buying a new (for me) brand.

Or I'll eat hat and say I should have listened to Quaddro, ha ha.

Haha sure it will be fine. AMD platform is not as simple, but you will at least get into BIOS to make some tweaks. Some AMD board have XMP though, so you can check that if you may have it.

Updating for readers: The GSKill Sniper RAM didn't work for me, I have to RMA it. I'm not sure if this is an isolated case but if you plan to use it with this motherboard buyer beware.

I'll probably go with what Quaddro suggested, Corsair Vengence, depending on responses to the other thread.
