Which ram should I get?

Hi,

I've just ordered some new components to upgrade my PC. So far I've ordered the ROG STRIX Z370-E Gaming Motherboard and Intel i7-8700K processor. My current ram is 16GB DDR3 so need to get DDR4 but which one? Does anyone have a similar build that could suggest which ram to get?

I'll mostly be using the PC for gaming, maybe a little bit of video editing here and there.

Thanks

Here is the list of all RAM sticks that Asus have tested on that specific MoBo, pick any RAM from the list you like,

(Scroll down a lot to get to 3000 Mhz and 3200 Mhz RAMs.)

Since you have Z-series MoBo, i'd go with 3000 Mhz or 3200 Mhz RAM as a 2x 8GB set. E.g:
HX430C15SBK2/16 - Kingston Savage 2x 8GB 3000 Mhz,
pcpp: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/mb8H99/kingston-memory-hx430c15sbk216
CMK16GX4M2B3000C15 - Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x 8GB 3000 Mhz (comes in 4 colors),
pcpp: https://pcpartpicker.com/products/compare/MYH48d,2skwrH,Ntp323,6ntWGX/

In my Skylake build (full specs with pics in my sig), i also have...

The cheapest lol. Unless your doing an online architect and your building stuff all you need for gaming is 8gb of 2400mhz ram. This is because 4gb is not enough and 16gb is twice as expensive and improves your fps very little as shown here: https://www.techspot.com/article/1043-8gb-vs-16gb-ram/

IF you dont have a problem spending a little money i would go with these https://pcpartpicker.com/product/McH48d/gskill-trident-z-16gb-2-x-8gb-ddr3-3200-memory-f4-3200c14d-16gtzkw they are a CL14

Or these are a little cheaper and a CL 15 https://pcpartpicker.com/product/gtnG3C/gskill-memory-f43200c15d16gvr

@Major i run a x58 980x with 12Gb of ram at work, running 7 firefox pages, 1 excel sheet, outlook 2016, and 2 remote desktops im using just north of 8GB of ram. I would have to wait till tonight to see what my computer does in my sig.

Faster RAM speed gives more FPS in games, especially in CPU bound games. While the sweet spot is at 2800 Mhz, i suggest going with 3000 Mhz for a nice rounded number and a bit extra FPS over 2800 Mhz while costing a little bit more. A nice video about it to watch,

And while 8GB of RAM can be enough for gaming; video rendering, in the other hand, requires more RAM and 32GB would be ideal. Making the overall sweet spot of RAM amount for gaming/video rendering build at 16GB. Also, latest AAA titles can use up to 12GB of RAM.
