Which router to buy?

I do not understand all the terminology of routers.
I want to buy a really cheap one which should let my desktop connect to the internet through a wire(I do not have a wifi card) and also allow my tab to connect using wifi. I do not need any special features like printer sharing, etc. What specs should I look for?

Thanks in advance

Which internet provider do you have?

The modem would depend on whether you are using cable internet or DSL. However a separate router is always better than a modem router combo.

I use NETGEAR RangeMax WNR1000 since it has a button to turn off the wifi function which makes a big difference in terms of how hot the router gets since I only use the ethernet cable.

I am switching my ISP. My new ISP provides 'cable internet' . That would mean I do not need a modem, do I?
Also will 3x3dbi antennas provide better range than 2x5dbi?

You will still need a modem. Most ISP's will provide you one, however charge you a leasing fee. If you want to avoid that fee get a modem that has a router built in as well.
