Hello,

I've got a Samsung 250gb SSD, which didn't come with any cables.

I need to know which ones to get, ie female to straight, male to female etc...but also which power cable do I need? Could someone provide me with a link to an Australian website for the cables I need?

Also, my Windows 7 is already installed on my HDD, and I wanted to know if I could move the whole OS onto the SSD?

How would I go about doing that? Is there any other easier ways to do it?

Cheers

You need a SATA cable: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/c7-bUkwWZtp_C0eDusLaAcnMGX6gbeFoHp6mijYr_qkzMxDlDfooFusRS4-yN7xS-557EkYFU9qGVdQGskZvX33iGXD5gW39m2DQMYx3LKiVw_wq7akJAtNHr-nvsyqE9g EDIT: SATA cables are always male-to-male.
And a SATA Power cable: http://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/cooldrives/sata-hard-drive-power-cable-connector.jpg

Chances are that you already have both. The SATA cable is connected from the SSD to a SATA port on the motherboard and the SATA Power cable goes from the PSU to the SSD. Most SATA Power cables have multiple connectors on them so you can use a single cable to connect multiple drives.

You can move your OS to the new drive using imaging software, like Acronis True Image, Clonezilla, etc. You can find...

Simply copying the contents of the old drive to the new one does not work.

The first cable (the regular SATA one) will work fine, it's a standard SATA cable.

The second one is actually an adapter cable to turn a SATA Power connector into a Molex connector. You want one the other way around, like this one: http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=19_1347&products_id=12175
Ideally you'd want to use a SATA Power cable that comes with your PSU, but if you lost those or they broke or something you can plug this one into a peripheral Molex cable from your PSU (something like this: http://images.bit-tech.net/content_images/2008/06/seasonic-s12-ii-500w-psu/molex-8.jpg http://www.ixbt.com/power/psu/photos/hiper/770/hiper_770_cable.jpg) on one end and the SSD on the other end.
