Which should I pick

So, I'm having a hard time picking between these 2 laptops, help please!

1- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M GPU (3GB GDDR5) and Intel Core i7 Haswell - 4710MQ 2.5 GHz, 6MB Cache (3.50 GHz Max Turbo)

2-NVIDIA GeForce GTX 870M (3GB GDDR5) and Intel Core i7 Haswell - 4810MQ 2.8 GHz, 6MB Cache (3.80 GHz Max Turbo)

Which is better gaming rig (other variables are the same) that will age better? Any insight will be appreciated!

You'll definitely want the 970M over the 870M for future games, there is a significant performance difference between the two.

The first one will be better for gaming because it has a better GPU. The I7 4710 is no bottleneck in games, you will not notice a difference in gaming with it and the 4810. This is a situation where you would be best off going for the better graphics.

The first one has a better graphics card and the second one the better processor. The newer graphics card is better on power consumption. I'd go with that. The slight processor drawback shouldn't be too noticeable.

1st one, gaming always needs the best gpu over the best cpu.

Thanks for the answers guys. I'd mostly be playing the new Total War game though, which are usually cpu heavy, so I'm concerned that 2.5 ghz won't be enough. The other one's processor really isn't that much better, then?

It turbo boosts to 3.5Ghz so while gaming it'll be 3.5Ghz.
