i have a 1060 6gb gpu and a i5 6600 cpu, i am looking to upgrade one of them to give me a smoother gaming experience on games such as pubg or overwatch. what should i upgrade first?

That’s what I wouldn’t do. The 980ti is in an outdated architecture and maybe might make your setup run slower. However I would recommend a more powerful GPU or try a SLI or Crossfire setup for your pc.

i see and feel a drop in fps on pubg mostly when there are lots of people, im just wondering if its better to upgrade my gpu to a 1070 or 980ti or upgrade my cpu to a i5 7600k or i7 7700k

Honestly your CPU is fine for running PUBG. An I5 of that spec will be able to handle PUBG or Overwatch. I’m definitely thinking graphics card as it is what is mainly relied upon for gaming. Since you haven’t presented me with setting, i assume that a GPU will do the job for you better than upgrading your CPU.

A better CPU would help but tbh PUBG isn't exactly the best optimized game, adjusting settings slightly should lesson or even eliminate those drops. As for Overwatch your system should run it very well. If your getting FPS drops still then you may want to check the CPU/GPU temp as both should be under 80C for extended gaming sessions.

Happy to help anytime, would you like any recommendations, however component prices are still high and I imagine they may stoop down in a while.

You should upgrade your cpu to 6700k or 7700k if possible, or at least get a 7600k and push the freq to about 4.2+, upgrade to a better gpu don’t constitute too much.

I have two gpu rx580 and a 1080ti running a 6600k at 4.5 ghz, at 1080p,(ultra aa,pp,texture, very low everything) rx580 is doing 100-120 fps, 1080ti 120-140 fps., the 1080ti cost three time as much.

I can’t tell tbh without fps counter. So I would personally suggest upgrade the cpu if possible.

on pubg i play very low everything apart from high textures and aa, i get a average of about 115fps but as soon as other players are there it lags. also on my old pc i had a gtx 660 and i5 3570k and on csgo i get the exact same fps as i do now. so thats why i was thinking i need to upgrade cpu.
