Ok I recently bought a noctua nf-f12 as my front intake but I am unsure as whether I should place the fan pushing air through the grill or pulling air and if it makes any difference

Solution
Usually the grill is just a safety device to keep fingers out of the fan. As such you would have the fan on the inside of the grill pulling air. If the grill has any kind of air filter associated, that is another reason to pull air.

Thank you for the farst reply but just o make sure we are on the same page i mean the grill you screw the fan onto suposed to the metal safety guards that come with some fans.
The fan i am talking about is a front static pressure intake fan that brings air throught hard drive racks.
And the case has a front grill then a gap for a fan then a grill to hold the fan then space on the other side of grill to mount fan aswell This is the case

I don't think my basic answer changes. Grills are intended to keep things out of fans. Be it cables from the disk cage, or fingers or what ever.

From you description, I don't believe it matters what side you mount. The different mounting options could be if you are not using that disk cage because of interference with a long graphics card. It could also be that the grill allows different diameter fans to be used. It might be a 120mm vs 140mm adapter.

ok thanks very much
