i was thinking of the i7-6700k because a lot of games now a days are recommending a i7 processor. Also i was thinking that hyper threading could help performance. Most of my friends are saying an i5-6600k is really good ( especially since I'm only doing gaming) Lastly,i thought the i7 could really increase the longevity of my build. I should also add that im only going to be gaming and this is my first build.

If you can afford the extra money and have nothing else to spend it on, you can go ahead and get the i7. From personal experience the i5 6600k is more than enough for gaming, and you're not going to even be able to notice any benefit to having the i7 unless you have a 144Hz display and a top of the line GPU. Most games don't really benefit that much from the i7's hyperthreading right now, and the few that do still get well over 60FPS with the i5 when paired with a high end graphics card.
