Which skylake/kabylake CPU will net higher fps in games

Hi.

I've bought a gigabyte Z270p D3 motherboard and I'm looking at a skylake or kabylake CPU.

I'm basically doing a refresh on my comp ie new case fans psu new ssd drives etc etc

I was using a i5 4690 non K on a msi Z97 pc mate motherboard which I've sold.

Which cpu would net best performance in all types of games?

A 7700k is the obvious winner there.

You will want one of the K suffix processors and plan on overclocking.
You may get close to 5.0 with a i5-7600K with 4 cores or I7-7700K with 4 cores and 8 threads.
Favor the 7700K if you play multiplayer games.

Definitely the 7700k. Unfortunately they're still quite pricey.

Unless you got a killer deal on the board, and get another killer deal on the cpu, you may be better off going 8th gen for roughly the same $$$ .

I've just spotted an i5 8400 that's within my budget? Looking at YouTube benchmarks even at 2.9mhz it's returning very high fps

How will this cpu look like?

I have seen some K cpu but the Psu I bought was an 80 bronze aerocool rgb

The 8400 won't work with the z270, you would need z370/390.

Or whatever the non z chipsets are, h370?? As it's not an overclockable chip.

I've ordered a i5 6600 non K chip. Searching info about it many picked an i5 6500 as it gave very good frame rates so I thought I'd get the 6600 wasn't much more cost. Over the 6500.

At least in the future I've an upgrade path with my z270 motherboard.
