Hi everyone, i just wanted to know if anyone in here can recommend a very good software that does a good job at defragmenting my harddrive. I know i can use the windows defragment software but i feel that doesn't do a very good job. thank you all for the reply.

I have a software program called "Fix-it Utilities" . It uses something called "JetDefrag" that i have used on my Windows XP Pro and it does a good job. It also does several other things to help your programs run faster. I have no complaints. Here is a link to their website  http://www.v-com.com/product/Fix-It_Utilities_Home.html?gclid=CNXB6_73z4kCFQtkYQodZhxmvQ. Hope that helps you.

You'll have to pay for it (although there is a free trial available) but I use O&O Defrag and it is absolutely superb. Well worth, for me anyway, the price you pay for it.

This is weird, i downloaded diskeeper the trail version, and i ran it on all my partitions and now i have a problem. every time i access the start menu and go to programs, it takes a while until it shows the program list. The HDD light just steays led for while, and when its turns off, then the program list comes up. Now before i had diskeeper i never had this problem. Have you every ran into this problem before?

the core XP uses is absolutly not the same as diskeeper! 8O

if under the hood they are the same, why should they even bother selling their own product?
the XP core is just the basic, minimum requerements to defragment.

From what I read a while ago - windows defrag tool is a stripped version of diskeeper. same algorithms at least.

And now, to put some weight into my argument:

"The bundled defragmenter for the Windows XP operating system is a stripped-down, early version of Diskeeper."

Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diskeeper

you are right, to some point, de XP defragger is was made executive;
but it is actually diskeeper 4.0 completely stripped down, diskeeper current version is 9.0 so, there is a big difference; by performance and defrag engine.
use google to search for it!

wow. you've certainly done your homework )). I retreat.

Anyway, the only thing that pissed me off in the built-in defragmenter - was its inability to defrar 2 or more drives at once, unlike Diskeeper

I use diskeeper on 2 different OS platforms(Open VMS and Windows). I never have to think about it. It is very intelligent and does a good job of organizing your files when your computer is idle. I hardly ever see it run (computers stay on 25x7) but when I pull it up to check on things the hard drive is defragged. In the many years of using this program I have never had to call tech support with a problem.

SYSINTERNALS had two tools that I loved.
The free one is still available here..........

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/FileAndDisk/PageDefrag.m
spx

The second one - Defrag Manager - one of the best now appears gone that MS has bought SYSINTERNALS and MS is now giving this to the old "Defrag Manager Customers".

You may be able to find the old "Defrag Manager" cheap someplace. It was the best and its not too old.

The first link is dead =/
