I'm a little confused by the whole M.2 SATA and PCI-E connectivity thing thats going on with SSD's...sorry!

I was just about to order a traditional looking Samsung EVO 850SSD for my new build when I saw a video of someone slotting a tiny board mounted SSD (looked a little like a RAM stick) into a special M.2 slot on the same (ASUS Z170A) motherboard i have...

Now i've looked and there are SATA SSD's that look like drives , M.2 SSDs that look like RAM boards and M.2 SATA SSD's that look like RAM boards!!!!

Which do I want...which is best?

Cheers!

Its mainly about speed. Sata 3 is limited to 600 Mbs (the 850 evo or any 2.5 inch SSD) its the slowest but the cheapest. While the PCIe and M.2 cards arent limited to that. They are much faster, some, like the Intel 750 series can get up to 2400 MBs read and 1400 write or the Samsung 950 Pro which can get 2500 MBs read and 1500 write , but they're a lot more expensive. If you have the money I would def recommend a PCIe or M.2 SSD. Before you buy just make sure to look at the speeds and do a little research on what youre looking to buy before you actually do.

I'm looking at a 250GB SSD before I saw that I was pretty settled on the Samsung EVO850 which is just under £60
I'm happy to drop a few more £s if I'm getting something significantly netter...
