Which SSD to buy?

Hello I am looking for the best SSD for under $100

Right now I have it narrowed down to two and I don't know which one to get.

I would go for that Corsair just because of the price after rebate, pretty much close in performance.

The Mushkin Chronos Deluxe or the other SSD's with premium toshiba toggle mode flash "was" the easy choice at 120 GB for $100 ..... well until Thursday of last week.

.....longest life flash available in enthusiast SSD
.....Mushkin was under $100

Yesterday, newegg raised the price to $115

Still ..... with those other SSD's w/ toshibe toggle mode flash at over $200, I wouldn't consider anything else.

The two choices you listed have the lowest end "budget" flash

Other than a few really oddball entries, SF-2281 'consumer' SSDs come in three flash flavors. Starting on the low end, you have IMFT 25nm asynchronous flash, a budget flash used in the Agility 3, Force 3, Chronos (non-Deluxe model)

At the top end ya have the Chronos Deluxe

The final flash type used is 3Xnm Toggle Mode flash from Toshiba, a form of ONFi 2.x without the JEDEC classification. 25nm IMFT is rated for around 5K P/E cycles and 3Xnm Toshiba Toggle Mode flash is rated for around twice as many. Even though we are talking about writing a lot of data for a very long time, the 3Xnm flash will still last even longer.

At this time there are very few consumer SSDs that use Toshiba Toggle Flash; you can count those available in the US on one hand - Vertex 3 Max IOPS Edition, Patriot WildFire, OWC Mercury Extreme Pro 6G (240GB capacity size only) and what we looked at today, the Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe. That said, the Chronos Deluxe is in a very limited class of products right from the gate.

To sum it all up with a bow on top, you get amazing performance, extremely long service life and a hassle free low price point on a drive that literally has very little competition in the marketplace.

For $15, you move from the "lowest end" flash to the "highest end" flash ..... and one look at the performance comparison should make the choice easy

If you count in the MIR on the Corsair it is $35 dollars for benchmark difference that most people will not notice in normal use.

Mushkin Enhanced Chronos Deluxe MX is the Synchronous-Mode MLC NAND. But it is still better than the Mushkin Chronos.
