In the market for a TKL mechanical keyboard for 60% gaming and 40% coding. Any recommendations.
Here are requirements in the order of highest to low priority:
  • Budget: <$130
  • Must be TenKeyLess
  • Support Macros/Programmable (Multikey actions with Delays)
  • Cherry MX Brown
  • LED Backlit to be usable in dark
  • PBT Keycaps (preferred, but not mandatory)
Here are few currently in consideration:
  • Corsair K65/K70 (Dont like the non-standard bottom row keys)
  • Varmilo VA87M (No Macros, and expensive for feature-set)
Leopold FC750R (No Macros, and expensive for feature-set)
  • Fnatic Ministreak (Keycaps appear somewhat cheap)
Any advice ?

The keyboards you don't like due to the price, they are more expensive because they are build more solid than other models. I have a Leopold, it's a more solid feeling setup than my Corsair and some other keyboards I have. Their price is not based on what stuff they pack into the keyboard but quality of materials used and the engineering.

If you want a keyboard with macros, then the standard gaming brands like Corsair, HyperX or Logitech should be good. Only issue with Logitech Romer-G keys is that the space bar is more boingy feeling and sounding than in many other keyboards. The keys do feel very close to MX Browns though.
