Which upgrade should I choose?

Hello,
I currently use an I7 4790 (non K) +ASUS H97M-E + 16GB (4x4) DDR3 + Zotac gtx 980ti AMP.
I was wondering if I should upgrade to a GTX 1080 or a i7 6700k + Gigabyte Z170X-Gaming 3.
I use my pc mostly for gaming and I got around 750 dollars to spend.

Neither. Buy another 980 Ti and use the remaining budget for other upgrades or save them. 4790 is still good, even until now.

That motherboard does not support SLI.
A 1080 is only 26% faster than a 980Ti, I consider 30%+ to be a substantial upgrade. I would not consider that worthwhile.
What reason do you have to upgrade? That system should do fine with anything you throw at it.

I suggest maybe a new SSD, some new peripherals, or maybe a new monitor.

Get more capacity SSD, or a decent power supply if you do not have one. Get a good cpu cooler if you do not have one. Or a new sexy case or monitor. Or quality mouse.

Or more games to play.

Yeah... I guess I'll just buy a SSD, save the money and wait until the 1080ti or something like that comes out. Thanks a lot guys!
