Hello,
I was curious as to what company makes the best custom gtx 1080. I know the three best are EVGA, Asus, and MSI. also, are the cards compatible with water coolers yet?

Thank you!

Solution
I've found myself in the same boat. I'm currently looking at the Gigabyte Xtreme or Asus Strix 1080 but I've never bought an Nvidia card before so I've never dealt with these companies (previously stuck to Sapphire for AMD cards.) Any advice / experience from anyone regarding these brands and others would be super helpful for myself (and the OP as well I'm sure!)

evga, msi, asus, and gigabyte are the big dogs tier 1 makers

xfx, zotac, PNY, Galax, I would consider tier 2

powercolor I would say to be tier 3

Those two are not Nvidia partners.

I'm not sure what you mean, or why it's pertinent considering they both make custom cards based off reference Nvidia cards. I know they aren't Nvidia 'exclusive' but I'm not worried about that, but rather which company is known for making great custom models, whether that be for both companies (AMD / Nvidia) or just one.

They don't make Nvidia cards, that's why it's pertinent.

i just randomly listed some makers with quality of their products as the key consideration

i honestly did not know xfx and powercolor stopped making nvidia cards

XD

I don't think Powercolour were ever an Nvidia AIB partner but I do know that XFX and Nvidia parted company a few years back.

Ahh, I thought you were referencing my original question referring to Asus and Gigabyte, not maxalge's response where you bolded xfx and powercolor. My bad.

im probably gonna upgrade to a 1080 from my 970, i see the asus strix is cheaper and has a higher boost clock compared to the msi gaming X... but maybe the msi one will have better temps and way better overlocking abilities? i dunno

in my eyes the 2 big bad dawwgss is the msi gaming x and asus strix since they have the highest boost clocks. still need to know who wins in the temperature department tho and if any of them are thermal throttling like the reference cards (who would have thought...)

Gigabyte did just post on their Xtreme Gaming facebook page that they will be releasing their Xtrem Gaming 1080 next week, so I'd keep an eye on that, as well, if you're interested in OC. I've never dealt with Gigabyte, but I think I might go with the Xtreme Gaming over the Strix.
